Nov 2007:

Message from the Director, Ken Morrison:

“I was absolutely delighted with the commitment, hard work and sheer enthusiasm of all the entrants at this year’s Eisteddfod. Although I was unable to hear many of the performances during the day, the atmosphere at the Concert was very special. I salute you all, well done. And the same goes for the large number of entries in the Art, Literary and Photography Classes – the standards were very high indeed.

Next year’s Eisteddfod will take place – very appropriately on St Cecilia’s Day, 22nd November. The Brochure should be out mid-June and the closing date will be 1st October. If you have any feedback from this year’s Eisteddfod, or any suggestions as to how we can improve things, or any ideas for new classes, then please contact me through the web-site – we would welcome your thoughts.”

*Best wishes! Ken*

Nov 2006:

Message from the Director, Ken Morrison:

I was extremely pleased with virtually every aspect of the Eisteddfod this year. The preparation and dedication of the children was wonderful to behold, and the atmosphere at the evening Concert was electrifying. Without them and their parents and teachers, the Eisteddfod would not happen, and so I congratulate them all.

The Town Mayor was quite bowled over by the atmosphere and by the standard of performance. The Town Hall is just the prefect venue for our concluding Concert. Link to article in the Gazette & Herald

I would also like to thank warmly all those who gave their time, energy and expertise to make it happen.

The Eisteddfod is in danger of becoming too successful! It was an amazingly complex exercise to put together for this year and we had a few minor glitches. If our entries continue to increase, it could become an impossible task given the facilities currently at our disposal. So your Committee will be deliberating over the next few months just how to restructure the Eisteddfod to satisfy everyone’s requirements.

If you have any ideas as to how we might improve the organisation, then please do get in touch via email: kenneth@devizes-eisteddfod.org.uk

*Best wishes! Ken*

August 2006: Welcome from the Director:

60th Anniversaries are often called 'Diamond' and they say that 'diamonds are for ever'. Let's hope that something of that longevity applies to the Devizes Junior Eisteddfod!

Given the enormous support and positive feedback we received last year, we have widened the appeal of the Eisteddfod by offering new classes in Folk Music and Singing, Church Organ playing, Mime, Drama and 3-dimensional Art, about which we are very excited and which we feel will have great appeal.

We are delighted that Simon May, our Patron, has offered to adjudicate the Original Composition classes - this is a marvellous opportunity for GCSE and A-level music students to have their compositions adjudicated by an outstanding musician.

We have improved the structure of the Concert as it seemed a great pity that most of the younger performers were not present to enjoy the senior performances. To this end, we are combining the Junior and Senior Concerts into one, and mixing up the performers tp provide a better balance.

It would not be possible to stage the Eisteddfod without suitable locations, and this year we have a new venue at St. John's Church and Parish Room, as well as at St. Andrew's and Sheep St. Churches and we are extremely grateful to all those who have offered the use of their premises for this exciting and important event. I would also like to thank both Springford and Rose and Dauntsey's School for their help and financial support in producing the Brochure which accompanies the Eisteddfod and is available on request.

Nov 2005: Message from the Director:

I could not have been more pleased with the Eisteddfod on Saturday. The sheer enjoyment and enthusiasm of the entrants was wonderful to feel, although inevitably there were a few organisational glitches. Very many thanks to all those who made the event possible.

Everywhere there was a wonderful buzz of expectation and excitement. The intensity of the individual contestants matched the infectious anticipation of events such as the junior choirs where there were so many entrants that sadly we had to separate them for the performances.

The standard of performance at the two concerts was very high indeed and was much enjoyed by all who attended. The Town Mayor was sad at having to leave half way through with the prize presentation by Chris Thompson, the outgoing Director of the Eisteddfod.

Full results of the Eisteddfod will soon be available on the website. The AGM will be on 27 January 2006 at Easterton Village Hall (click here for the agenda).

And please note the date of the 2006 Eisteddfod: 18 November 2006.

Ken Morrison

We’re delighted to be bringing the Devizes Junior Eisteddfod back to Devizes!

The Eisteddfod will take place on 19 November 2005 at Sheep Street Baptist and St Andrew’s Churches in Devizes. It's structure will be similar to recent years, but split between the two venues. The final concert will be held in the Town Hall.

The event will include singing, piano, stringed instruments (violin, viola, cello, guitar), all recorders, woodwind & brass, composition, speaking, reading, handwriting and painting.

Entry forms should be available from early July with a deadline of 1st October.

All offers of help and ideas are most welcome. Please contact Ken Morrison, the Director/Secretary (01380 812357, email : kenneth@devizes-eisteddfod.org.uk).
