Spring 2020 Young Writers Event
in association with Devizes Books

The Eisteddfod is inviting young people to write a short story of their own choice or on the titles listed.

The writers of the first 50 stories received will each be sent a VOUCHER for £10 which can be redeemed for a book at Devizes Books, Handel House, Sidmouth Street, SN10 1LD. (No change given). The voucher can be used anytime before 30 November 2020. One voucher per person.

Entrants should send their story and the completed entry form by email to:

no later than 30 June 2020.

Entries can be in handwriting or typed.

Entry to this event is free.

Details

Young writers should enter in one of the following five classes, their qualifying age being at 31 August 2020.

The subject of the story should be their own choice or the appropriate title listed below.

L1 (Age 8 & under): ‘My Big Moment’
Not to exceed 300 words.

L2 (Age 10 & under): ‘A Tale of Two Siblings’
Not to exceed 450 words.

L3 (Age 12 & under): ‘After the Sun went Down’
Not to exceed 500 words.

L4 (Age 15 & under): ‘The Birthday Party’
Not to exceed 750 words.

L5 (Age 18 & under): ‘Life on Mars’
Not to exceed 1000 words.

All young writers taking part in this event will automatically be entered into the 2020 Devizes Eisteddfod Pre-Adjudicated Short Story Classes where there their story will be adjudicated. They will each receive a certificate and be considered for the Young Writer’s Cup presented at the Festival Concert on 28 November 2020 in Devizes Town Hall.

Young people may also enter the Eisteddfod with further stories later in the year before the entry deadline date, 2 October 2020.
